Hi all,

We have another great affiliate convention that will be streaming on ACB
Radio Live Event this weekend!

This weekend the Florida Council of the Blind will be holding its 60th
annual convention at the Four Points Sheraton in Orlando.

For those of you who cannot attend the convention in person don't worry
because ACB Radio has you covered.

Below you will find the list of events that will be streamed starting Friday
Morning.

Please note all times listed are eastern time.

Friday May 17, 2013

9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. - Guide Dog Users of Florida Meeting and Program 
GDUF is pleased to present two very interesting and informative panel
presentations. 
a.	Self Advocacy, why and how? Moderator:  Becky Barnes, Manager of
Consumer Outreach and Graduate Support, Guiding Eyes for the Blind; Jenine
Stanly, Coordinator of Consumer Services, Guide Dog Foundation; Debbie
Grubb, Secretary, GDUF, IMMEDIATE Past President, FCB Chair ACB
Environmental Access Committee; will discuss the many facets of these very
important questions. Topics will include: information about the ACB
Pedestrian Safety Handbook; coping with discrimination at the moment; the
importance of your personal story, how best to tell it; the entities that
govern your civil rights; and how, where and why complaints should be filed.
Your questions will be addressed at the conclusion of the formal
presentation.

b.	The reality of pedestrian access for people who are blind and
visually impaired. Panelists Becky Barnes, Guiding Eyes for the Blind,
Jenine Stanley, Guide Dog Foundation, Chelsea White and Mike Moran, The
Seeing Eye,, Moderator, Debbie Grubb, Secretary, GDUF, will bring the
various components of this issue to the table and present tips for safe
travel in an environment where very little is being done to accommodate our
unique needs and rights as citizens of this country. Your questions will be
addressed at the conclusion of the formal presentation.

1:00 p.m. - 2:45 p.m. 
FCB Annual Legislative Seminar
The annual FCB Legislative Seminar will take place from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM.
Gaining success in any legislative initiative begins long before that
initiative takes the shape of a Bill. Learn some crucial truths about
preparing for legislative success from expert panelists: Kim Charlson, First
Vice-President, American Council of the Blind, Director Massachusetts
Regional Library at Perkins; Brian Charlson, Director of Technology Training
at the Carroll Center, Chair, ACB Technology Committee; Becky Barnes,
Manager of Consumer Outreach and Graduate Support, Guiding Eyes for the
Blind; Jenine Stanly, Coordinator of Consumer Services, Guide Dog
Foundation; Kent Stanley, Planning and Zoning Committee member and former
village councilman, Minerva Park, Ohio; Debbie Grubb, Immediate Past
President, Florida Council of the Blind, Chair, ACB Environmental Access
Committee, Chair, FCB Public Education Committee.

7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. - Awards and Scholarship Dinner 
Join us on Friday evening to celebrate and recognize FCB leaders and
deserving students at a special Dinner hosted in their honor by Debbie
Grubb. Select advocates and leaders will be recognized with prestigious
awards and deserving students will be presented with valuable scholarships.

8:15 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. - 60th Annual State Convention 
Opening Ceremonies
Join us on Saturday morning at 8:30 AM for our preconvention business
meeting and remain with us for the morning's opening session which will
begin at 9:00 AM and conclude at 10:00 AM. The World Blind Union, What is
it? Why is ACB our Parent organization, involved? What are the scope and
purpose of its conferences? What impact does the WBU have on our lives? What
is the life reality for blind people in other WBU member countries? Kim
Charlson, Brian Charlson and Paul Edwards will answer these questions and
share much more with us based on their observations as they have traveled
throughout the world representing ACB at WBU conferences. 

10:15 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. - Braille Today: Is Braille an important tool in
your daily life? 

Kim Charlson, ACB's representative to the Braille Authority of North
America, (BANA), will describe to you the scope of this organization, how it
works with entities around the world to insure the integrity of the Braille
code, and how recent decisions made by BANA will impact the everyday Braille
reader in the United States.

1:30 p.m. - 2:15 p.m. - Annual Town Hall Meeting
FCB Annual Town Hall Meeting 1:30 PM to 2:15 PM.
Presentation and discussion regarding the current status of the Division of
Blind Services (DBS): Paul Edwards and Guests.

2:15 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. Video Description here and now
Kim Charlson, Brian Charlson and Paul Edwards will describe video
description today, where and how it can be found, its future and its reality
to us today.

7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. - FCB Banquet
FCB Annual Banquet: hosted by FCB President Paul Edwards. Kim Charlson,
candidate for the Presidency of the American Council of the Blind, will
share with us a message from her heart. Since Kim and her husband, Brian,
devote a significant part of their lives working on our behalf in a variety
of interesting and meaningful ways, this banquet speech will be one of our
most interesting as it will be brought to us from someone who lives out her
commitment to ACB and its members every day.

9:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m. -.
Directly following the banquet, don't miss the GOCB sponsored mini-trivia
night.  Chapters will have the opportunity to engage in some friendly
competition. There will be prizes for the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place teams. It
will be helpful if each Chapter has the ability to record answers. However,
assistance will be provided to those Chapters who require it. 

10:00 p.m. - FCB's Annual Raffle Drawing
Wait! Party time ain't over yet! During intermission; we will hold our
annual FCB raffle drawing for money and other exciting prizes. You don't
need to be present to win but what a fine nightcap!

8:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. - Annual Membership Business Meeting 
On Sunday morning, claim your right and responsibility as an FCB member by
participating in the organization's annual business meeting. Hear from
leaders about progress made and important work that must be accomplished.
Discover what important role you can play in advocacy and help make
important decisions that affect us all.
